c1900 Impressive European Silver Hand Chased Sugar Shaker / Caster / Muffineer
Presented is an impressive size European silver sugar shaker, caster, or muffineer. This piece is likely German, and dates to the late 1800s or early 1900s. The body of the shaker is fabulously hand chased with ornate floral and scroll designs, surrounding typical genre scenes, one of a lady getting her portrait drawn by a man and the other showing, perhaps, people gossiping. The lid is done in a swirled design, with finely engraved bellflowers surrounding many of the pierced holes. The lid has a notched bayonet style locking mechanism, so it is very secure.
This piece is in great condition. There are no splits, no breaks, no dents, no cracks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The underside of the shaker is stamped with German/Hanau style hallmarks, which we unfortunately do not recognize. We have tested this piece and guarantee it to be at least 800 purity silver.
The caster is about 7 1/2 inches tall.
The caster weighs 212 grams or 7.5 regular ounces.
